Patlolla Sabitha Indra Reddy is the first woman Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh, India. She is a member of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy's Cabinet. The three-time legislator served as the Mines and Geology Minister in the earlier government. She will head the 80,000 strong police force in the State at a time when the anti-naxalite operations have reached a decisive stage. Incidentally, her husband late P. Indra Reddy was also Home Minister in N. T. Rama Rao Cabinet.

P.Sabita Indra Reddy becomes first woman Home Minister of AP


andhrapradeshassembly2Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has rewarded his sister P Sabita Indra Reddy by elevating her as the state Home Minister, making her the first woman to hold the post.

Incidentally, Sabita’s late husband Indra Reddy too was a home minister in the NT Rama Rao cabinet in 1994-95.

Sabita was minister for mines and geology in the previous cabinet.

Meanwhile, senior ministers K Rosaiah, Dharmana Prasada Rao, N Raghuveera Reddy and Ponnala Lakshmaiah retained their old portfolios–finance, revenue, agriculture and major irrigation respectively.

The Chief Minister announced the portfolios for the new ministers, who were sworn-in on Monday night, before leaving on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem on Tuesday.
